The Trustees from time to time provide a scholarship for a student requesting a one-year post-graduate position at Cambridge UK. The applicant needs to be an outstanding individual with a demonstrated commitment to the broader community. Miss Elliott is one such person.
Miss Elliott was born in Western Australia and completed her secondary education and the first of her tertiary qualifications at educational institutions in Perth.
As a young lawyer in Sydney, Miss Elliott has spent considerable time arguing human rights issues as convenor and secretary of the Amnesty International NSW Legal Network. She has been actively involved in a range of little discussed or investigated issues.
In 2009 Miss Elliott hosted a successful panel seminar in Sydney on modern day slavery featuring a variety of distinguished speakers to provoke concern in the legal community about the existence of, and the whole-of-government response to, sex trafficking in Australia.
In 2010 as a solicitor at the Blake Dawson law firm, she reviewed the due diligence and risk management protocol for clients addressing issues including corruption in China and the implications for Australian business in that jurisdiction and internationally.
Miss Elliott believes that a Masters degree in international relations from Cambridge University will equip her with the skills required to strategically address inequity and encourage action on a national scale.
Miss Sarah Elliott is an outstanding young Australian with a social conscience and is a deserved winner of a C.A.S. Hawker Scholarship.
