Hawker Scholar: 2006 - 2008

Lauren Hannan

It has been a decade since I was the grateful recipient of the C.A.S Hawker Scholarship in 2006 and moved to Burgmann College to study at the Australian National University. I completed my Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Arts from ANU in 2010, which included studying at the National University of Singapore.

After completing a Graduate Program with the Australian Federal Police, I joined the office of the then Federal Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, the Hon. Joe Ludwig. I had the privilege of going to work at Parliament House every day, working on national agricultural policy and scratching the surface of the mysteries of the Australian Senate.

Since 2013, I have worked for the Australian Trade and Investment Commission, based from Canberra and Sydney, and worked in Dubai, Riyadh and San Francisco. I currently lead the Agribusiness Trade Team, which assists Australian agribusinesses export their products, services and technology to reach a global market and will complete a Masters in International Trade and Commercial Law this year.

Recently, I returned to the University of Adelaide to meet with researchers to understand how we can assist share Australian agricultural technology capability with the world. It struck me that it was ten years since I was standing on a lawn at St Mark’s College, excited and proud to commence a new stage of my life. At that time, I didn’t know what my future would hold, but with the generosity and support of the C.A.S Hawker Scholarship, I have been able to pursue my interests and passion of politics, agriculture and international affairs.
