Charley Ellwood is an intelligent and dedicated student who always demonstrates integrity, strength of character and commitment to both his academic studies and co-curricular pursuits.

Charley is a highly ambitious individual who strives to expand his knowledge in all that he does. He has achieved numerous academic and outstanding work ethic awards, throughout his senior years at A.B. Paterson College on the Gold Coast.

He achieved Full Academic Colours across all semesters in years 10 to 12. He represented the College at the Bond University High School Model United Nations, helping his College to win Best Delegation Award in 2020.

He was awarded the Alan Rickard Scholarship in 2022, the College’s most prestigious scholarship, offered to the individual who best exemplifies the College’s motto of Excellence, Care and Commitment in academics, sport, leadership, and community service.

Charley made every effort to involve himself in the College and the wider community. He demonstrated his natural leadership skills through his various roles including being a member of the College student leadership team, and he was appointed College Captain in 2022.

He won the Lions Youth of the Year Competition for the Carrara and Robina Lions Clubs in 2021 and 2022. Charley is also a state member of the 2022 Queensland Legal Studies Youth Parliament.

He participated in College musicals, debating and public speaking. He was the Public Speaking Captain. The team reached grand finals in 2021 and 2022.

He is mature beyond his years, positive, and well-rounded. He takes responsibility for his decisions and has an inner strength that is to be admired. Charley consistently leads by example, and he is a life-long learner.

Charley believes the opportunities and responsibilities of being a C.A.S. Hawker Scholar will serve as a strong basis to continue working towards educational and social change through leadership and public service.
